From Adelaide to the NFL sideline
Matt Leo was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and took a road into American football that almost no one else has walked. Before the NFL, he worked as a plumber, played rugby and Australian rules football, and made the decision to cross an ocean and start over in a sport he was still learning.
At Iowa State, Matt earned his place as a Cyclone defensive lineman and built the foundation that carried him to the Philadelphia Eagles through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. It is a story defined by patience, toughness, and the rare courage to begin again — the kind of story that earns a permanent place in the record.
Today, Matt's leadership in player development and football operations gives him a platform beyond the field: guiding athletes through pressure, transition, and the long view of a career.
